It would be an empty world without the blues. In a 1920's music recording studio, over the course of one afternoon, a group of musicians and the legendary blues singer Ma Rainey record several songs as they discuss the questions of prejudice, race relations, and the problems facing black people in American society today. Tensions rise when the trailblazing Mother of the Blues and her band gather at a Chicago recording studio in 1927. Adapted from August Wilson's play.
